Urban warfare – Street battles introduce new tactical gameplay challenges, such as mech combat moves in front of wide open landscapes to expansive cityscapes. The main features of Urban Warfare again at a glance: Every player has to weigh that up for himself.īy loading the video, you accept YouTube’s privacy policy. Therefore, one should be careful whether one should not rather prefer the classic missions, as these usually offer a lower risk. Despite the profit, we therefore often have to reckon with dead and injured pilots and enormous repair costs.
However, this type of mission turns out to be rather unprofitable at the moment, as one of the opponents with troops seems to be superior. Our defenders are, of course, supposed to protect our base from the enemy. The aim of our attackers is of course to take over the enemy base. Here two Lances face each other in a duel with their respective four Mechs, which it makes sense to split up into a defense and attack team.
There are also new Flashpoints that should be viewed as more of a mini-campaign.Īs already mentioned at the beginning, a completely new type of mission has been added with “Attack and Defend”. What else does Urban Warfare offer? With two new ‘Mechs the Raven 1X and the Javalin join our arsenal. An ECM countermeasure is again offered by a sounding probe or a sighting of the enemy. It is great that electronic countermeasures (ECM) were introduced with this extension, which can offer us and our steel colossus a certain protection against enemy fire or its target system. Our short-range and long-range missiles therefore provide a remedy for a possibly preferred close combat. You also have to rethink the use of weapons, as you can lose sight of your enemies thanks to the city’s skyscrapers. Therefore, you should still be on the move and keep a close eye on your surroundings, but also your enemies. But whoever stands tall can of course also fall deep and of course take damage. Thanks to the jumpsets, fights now take place from elevated positions in some Mechs, as you can now get onto the roofs of the buildings. Furthermore, you can let your enemies run into traps, to which a power transformer or a fuel truck invite you.
Furthermore, you can use your surroundings again, which is made clear if you destroy a coolant house, for example, and thus help your Mech to cool down. Special objects can also be found on maps and used. For example, if we fall back several streets and then march through a burning city, we can suddenly fall into an opponent’s flank. But you have to be careful, as buildings and their structures could collapse. Because on the one hand large buildings offer protection from an enemy, on the other hand it is now more difficult for them to fire. Thanks to parks, streets, but also many building complexes or the rush hour traffic, you often need a new tactical approach. If you were previously in the jungle or in cold ice steppes, you are now up to mischief in big cities.
An urban setting stands out as a theater of war especially because of its great appearance. New mechs, unfortunately only two, but also a new mission type and new tactics can now be used by players. Further Flashpoint campaigns expand the career mode again. Often these expand the game again and motivate players, including us, to get into the mech in Urban Warfare.Īfter the Flashpoint expansion, Urban Warfare brings the struggle of the Inner Sphere to the colonies. Almost a year later the second expansion appeared, of which a total of three were announced. Likewise, that you could collect mechs and pilots during the very exciting, but also very long and entertaining campaign and were thus encouraged to continue. A well thought-out and, above all, tactical gameplay was also able to convince us in the test. BATTLETECH was published last year by publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Harebrained Schemes.
